Jesse Finch ended up third. T he return of J im Fishback brough t ou t th e largest crowd of the season, 5,500. The red flag flew a to tal of 12 times on th e night with one rider go ing through the crashwall. Fishback returned everyone's th oughts to the da ys of yesteryear wh en he got o ff o n the front chute at the en d of th e Scratch Consy. The popu lar rider tu m bled down the straight for over 25 feet but as usual bounced righ t up. J immy Filice By Ken Kell ogg CO ST A MESA, CA, JULY 30 Al though he was the winner of the American Speedway Fi nal and the top American in th e Inter-Continen tal Final, Dennis Sigalos didn 't fare well at th e O range County Fa irg ro u n d s, where Alan C hr isti a n and Dennis Br a n sfo rd emerged th e winners. T he Divi sion Three main event, for th e fir st time in many years, featu red a father and son in th e same event. The son, Mark Dwyer came in first in the main event a nd th e dad , Mi ke Dw yer , finished fou rt h just behi nd Mike Coniglio and Pa m Ben nett. Ron Bla nto n began the Seco nd Division ma in in second place, then on th e third la p he pass ed Way ne Leutz, The race was red -flagged on that lap a n d called officia l. Ch ris R eichardt was third a n d Ro b in Bourgeois fin ish ed fourth . Most of th e Handicap main looked like the battle of the rookies. Dennis Abbott , riding' fro m the 20-yard line, led for three laps with Den n is Bransfor d on his rear tire. On lap fou r Alan Christian had moved into the n umber two spot and Bransford into the lead. However, th ere was a co ll ision and the race was red flagged . Christian was disqualified and give n sixth place. Bransford retai ned his first p lace spo t, Abbott was given seco nd , Sterling Cogar third , Keith Chrisco fou rt h and Mike Mazzaca ne fifth. The final event, the Scra tch main , featured Gene Woods in lane on e, missing a co ntact lens. Joh n Sandona was in la ne two with Mik e Bast in the number three spot a nd Christian outside in lan e four. Woods and Bast took turns trying to run over th e starting tape, wit h Woods gelling th e holeshot. On lap two Christian passed on the inside to take the lead. Sandona came ou t of the ga te th ir d and although he challenged several times for the lead he was never able to move out of the th ird p lace position.
