Anderson, Michlitsch, Tyler terrific at Washougal MX By Brian Barnes WASHOUGAL, WA, JULY 18· On a day made for racing, Washougal Motocross Park put on one of its finest shows to date today with Jim Anderson ... (MX Fox/Kal-Gard/Dallas Baker Products/Yam support), Tim Michlitsch (DG /Bel-Ray/ Arai /Yarn support) and Scott Tyler (Mai/Hus Northwest) picking up Pro wins in races that some people called ' the most thrilling seen at Washougal in some time. After cloud cover broke of(rightaround noon, a great turnout of 34 125ccPros were ready to begin their first moto. Rob Watilo (Yam of Salem/RW Racing/Yam support), Michlitsch and Mitch Lorenz (Bellvue Suz) sprinted to the first tum ahead of the pack, and by the time they rounded the first .comer it was obvious that one of the top riders had been left in a big first tum crash. Unfortunately, that rider was Anderson. WatHo rode smoothly in the lead until Michlitsch passed him up at the halfway point. Meanwhile, Anderson had already passed 30 riders for fourth place trying desperately to catch the leading trio of Michlitsch, WatHo and Lorenz. After moving by Lorenz, and then Watilo, Anderson slowly started to work on Kawasaki's ace Michlitsch. His efforts came up short though as time ran out in the , moto. Michlitsch edged out Anderson for first, .W~tilo was third. Mike r 24 McCormick (Fred 's Cycle City Suz) rode an equally impressive race for fourth, coming from the tail end of the pack for his strong finish. Doug Lange (MX Fox /Vancouver Yam) grabbed fifth wit h Burien Suzuki's Danny Kiesso storming for sixth. . In the second rnoto, no one could stop Anderson, who streamrolled his competition for a strong moto win. Jim showed off some of his awesome riding ability, rewarding the fans with some unbelievable jumps en route to the win and overall. Michlitsch finished second after getting by fellow Kawasaki rider Joe Spangler, who finished an impressive third. McCormick was again fourth with Watilo and Diesso ending up fifth and sixth. Twenty-four 250cc Pro riders graced the line for their first moto, and this is where the best race of the day took place. Michlitsch, Dave Hettinga (RW Racing/Salem Yam), Loch Names (Eugene Suz) and Anderson rocketed around the first tum together, and by the end of lap one Anderson was behind Michlitsch in second, and the duel to the finish began. Michlitsch, who had already held off Anderson in the first '125cc moto, began to ride flawlessly, keeping the Yamaha ace at an honest distance until their battle came to a head on the last lap. With nearly half the last lap complete, shades of last year 's GloverSun battle- at the National came to mind, but Michlitsch didn't let Anderson's last lap surge bother him, finishing only feet in front of Anderson with a thrilling conclusion. Gresham Suzuki's Rick Bozarth rode to a great third, Hettinga was fourth arid Husky USA pilot Eric Eaton made a strong return to racing, finishing fifth; In. moto two; Michlitsch again holeshot with Diesso, Anderson and Hettinga in tow. The rnoto looked like nearly a repeat of the first race with Anderson going by Diesso to work on Michlitsch, who was again 'ridin g 120 percent faster! Anderson's day came to an end, though, when his unfortunate spill on Washougal's gi ant uphill left him unable to fin ish the rest of the mo to , leaving Michlitsch with clea r sai ling to the checkered . Diesso pi cked up a n ice seco nd, Sco tt Ty ler was th ird , H euinga, Names and Eastside Kawasaki 's Skeet Hise finished fourth through sixth.
