In th e Intermediate and No vice Mini classes, th e wins ca me in pairs as-Sha wn Davidson (Kaw) ripped th e Stockers two-for-two over Ramon Dominguez and then parlayed two seconds to an overall ahead of Terry McClure's 4-1 effort. The 12-16-yearold Novices saw l l-y ear-old Danny Hembree (Suz) just flat rip the two large fields in a four-for-four blast with nobody near him at the checkers. Looks like Mr. Hembree may make Intermediate about the same time he makes 12! The big show in th e 125cc Expert class wa s the continuing match up between Honda of Oceanside rider , Bill y Evans and Pacific Beach Honda rid er , Ken Dunlap. Dunlap, riding with a special plastic leg cast, went two-for-two in th e Modifieds for th e win over Evans. In th e Slacks, however, Evans dominated both motos in easy manner over teammate Bobby Vrh el, wh o did so me real scra m bling for a seco nd , posting a 4-2 effort. For th e first time a ll year, th e 125cc Interm ediates wer e very light o n e nt r ies , with Rich Schulenberg sweeping the Stocks , and Ron Yonekura taking th e Modifieds with a 2-2 finish. The Novices saw Kawasaki mounted Dan Southworth sweep both cla sses with I-I and 1-2efforts. Smithworth , who began th e year as a 125cc Beginner, is rapidly becoming the rider to watch, as a lot of smoothness is now showing up and complementing his very aggressive style.
