As a prelude to the American Federation o f Motorcycl ists' eighth annua l Six-Hour Classic, reg ul a r sp rint races were held Saturday, us ing th e long course at R iverside In tern a tiona l Raceway. Most of the races were basica lly p ractice for Six-Hour rid er s, who used the track time to set u p th eir bikes. In the AFM 's " Batt leof the Twins," Open c1asser Kevin Bracken took an early lead and showed 750cc rider Tony Guest the way to the flags. Bracken had amassed a sizeable lead by the second la p , bu t Guest proceeded to chip away at it unti l he was only two seconds beh in d by the ninth lap, On the last la p , they were side by side going in to turn seven, but the power of Bracken's big Duca ti won out in the end as Kevin took it, leaving Guest second overall bu t still first 750cc. The dirt trackers p u t on a show in the Stock P rod uct ion race as Earl Ro loff and Mike Mi n n ig traded the 750cc lead the en ti re 10 laps . T hese two sh o wed th ey weren't afra id to slide the tires as if th ey were a t Ascot. O n the last lap, Minnig even overtoo k Open class leader Da n n y H a rt , but Hart regained his lead do wn the back straigh t. Mi ke thought he had the 750cc win sewn up until he loo ked bes ide hi m at th e flag to see Rol off buzz by to win by inch es. Results OPEN TW IN: 1. Kevin Bracken (Due); 2.
