To help achieve tha t light weigh t, however, Suz u ki ch ose to keep on using 38m m fork leg s, albeit with thicker d ia me ter wa ll s, making th em one of the few ma n ufacturers with sub-40m m forks on the ir '82 MXers. Wh ile the RM-Z fork s wo r k very well stock after dia ling in, they can be made to work even better and feel far more rigid - com para ble to fat d iame ter forks - with W.A.R. Racing 's ne w triple clamps. The p ack age in cl udes handlebar moun ts, to p and bo ttom clamps machined o u t of a solid billet of aircraft alumin um, sta in less steel nuts and bolts, a handmade works-type cable guide and new fork wipers fo r $229. Besides bein g b ig ger , stro nger (tho ugh ni ne ounces heavier ) and m uch higher q uality.items than stock, th e W.A.R . clamps gri p the fork legs more positively and fa rt her do wn on th e tubes to enhance rig idity. The bi kes with th e W.A.R . cla m ps steered more precisel y in corn ers, wo u ld hold li nes better th ro ugh ruts an d seemed to get better action from th e for ks themselves. T ho ugh the stoc k fro nt end didn 't seem bad at all , it was defin itely a notch or two below the front end wi th W.A.R . clamps. T he $229 p rice ta g seems steep, bu t everyth ing is h igh quality stu ff h ere. In stalla tion is prett y straightforward, a nd illus trated in stru ctions a re in cluded.
