In addition £0 th e Grand National Champion, there should be up to th ree other National Champs. There shou ld be a 250, a 500cc a nd a Supercross Champ. The 250cc Champion would have the most points in his class, the number one 500cc rider would have the most points in his class , etc., just like the present Nationals. But, it would be possible for one person to win more than one class. Please print the address of the AMA so I can send my opinion to them. It was worthwhile to make the trip to ride in such a well put on race. Also, thanks £0 Mammoth Motorcycle Club for supporting the girls and having a class at Mammoth. JEANIE MORGAN #23Y President, Motofoxes Yuba City, CA Memory serves a Malherbe boycott When (Andre) Malherbe bullied his way to the (World 500cc MX) Championship, he said. " In a year, no one will remember how the championship was won. " I remember; I will not be buying Carrera goggles or an y other product that Malherbe is paid to endorse. I'd write directly £0 Carrera, but they don 't print an address. JOHN STANFORD Pocatello, ID Starting future desert racers I would like to thank the Huntington Beach Motorcycle Club for putting on a terrific kids race for future desert racers. I wish that more clubs would take the time for kids. I had a great time, and I think that everyone who raced did, too . RICHARD JACKSON District 35 # 155C Taft, CA Phantom desert racer revealed Being a long-time reader of Cycle News and a IS-year veteran of D-37 desert racing, I thought I might drop your readers a note. In the Desert Vipers Euro Scrambles held june 13-14, my brother-inlaw. Fred 'Fren zel, led the first two laps of the 250cc Novice class on Sunday. It was only the eighth race in his life, and being in front of Andy Mathews is a feat in itself. The only problem is Shirley Upp only showed his number, which is 220X, a s finishing second. Now , Shirley does a great job writing on th e des ert events, and I don 't believe th ere is anyone that could do better, but we need £0 get Fred's name in the open. So in conclusion, when you see 220X blow by you somewhere in the desert or see it in the papers, please remember that's our rider - Fred Frenzel - member of the Stump jumpers M.C . RON COBB Stump jumpers M.e. P.S . Sh irl ey, you do a fin e job, and for th e benefit of us desert racers, please keep up the good work. A speedy reco very to Kenny, too! Shu not big to some Gee, with the interview on Darrell (Sh u ltz) and with his modest answers, one might begin to think that he is just full of good, clean fun and handles being at the top very well .Lhal Well , if you read between the lines you can see that Da rr ell " will put the story out front and fill you in on any hot news 'tbecause the Shu is so hot on getting publicity - you know, your basic ham, or in his words".. . I can adapt really well to any situation." Boy, I'll say. I really like the good samaritan part, where h e took the Australians out for a steak dinner. Or how about when he lent 500 bucks to a guy in Atlanta. Oh, but the clincher phrase is, "what good is life if you can 't enjoy it with your family?" Golly, what a swell kind of guy. H ey, but what do I know? I'm just an o th er kid from Sacramento that doesn 't know the difference between a "Honda-red Porsche" and "just a no th er shiny car." A. GATES Sacramento, CA New Nationals I think the AMA's 'G ra nd National Championship Series is a good idea, but it would be a shame to do away with individual champs in the 250, 500cc and Supercross series. The Grand National Champion should be determined by 250, 500cc and Supercross point totals, like the AMA is planning on doing. Recently in Cycle News, a n appeal was made for blood donations for Bo b Ba lentine. Knowing how critical those donations can be for the patient and the morale of the family, I donated for Bob at the Central California Blood Bank in Visalia. Two days after donating blood for Bob, my father began £0 hemorrhage internally and, in three days, has used approximately 30 to 35 pints of blood. When the doctors are able to perform surgery, that figure will increase. I began to wonder if I had made the right choice in donating blood to a man I did not know when dad needed blood so despera tely. Today, I received a letter from the Blood Bank stating that Bo b had all of the blood he used replaced, and the blood I donated could be credited to another person. Thank Godl For Bo b and for dad; thus, my appeal. ... If there are others who have blood credits that can be transferred, I would certainly be grateful if those persons would consider transferring them to my dad - Gerald R. Monger, Valley Medical Center, Fresno, CA. I sure would like to see the fat, tired oldman back on his IT175. Thanks guys. JACK R.
