Everyone seemed ready to celeb rate the good wea th er an d th e • 1 wJ\PilU'"mV~f ~~~~Pfw~ulflled the Orange Cou nty International Ra ceway pits. T h e raceing was good a nd close, and the spectators in the stands became involved with each race. The only problem was a broken elec trica l line that caused a section of light to take the evening off. But, with th e use of the ambulances and a couple of four-wheel drive trucks, offi cials were able to adequately light the area, and racing went on without a ny course changes. It was th e largest turnout of th e season for 250cc Pros. Rob ert Reisinger and Juan Benavidez sh owed up to tune up for the upcoming Superbow l. Rob Trone, aft er decimating the Interm ediates this year, moved up to co m pe te for the money. A host of other riders joined th e regulars. In the fir st go 'round Todd Peterson wres tled the holeshot from the pack. Ben avidez was second with Trone third . The order sta yed tigh t until th e fourth lap. Benevidez went down, feeling h e had been rammed by another rider, and dropped to fifth. J im Brodie, the Ceet-sponsor ed rider, pas sed a slowing Reisinger and Trone to emerge in second place. Trone held onto third. Peterson extended h is lead and took the win. Bro die was second followed by Trone and Eric Baker. In the second m o to , the early lead belonged to Brodie. Bu t that didn't last the opening lap as th ere wa s a tangle of bikes by the ta blet op turn. Bena videz emerged th e leader and Peterson, who had a poor sta rt, was in second . Baker wa s in third and Brodie fourth. Soon Peterson had cut Benavidez' lead down to nothing. Juan . was trying to show Peterson and the crowd everything he learned at th e Nationals this yea r an d was doing a n effective job of blocking Peterson. Peterson kept the ch allenge up, a nd in the sweeping 180 degree turn after the big jump h e sta yed to th e ins ide and held th e line while Benavidez, who was on the outside, could not prevent Peterson from taking the lead. Peterson went on for the win while Benavidez was second. Brodie made a last-lap charge to get by Baker and secure third by the finish. O verall, it was Peter son 's 1-1 for the big money. Brodie's 2-3 was worth second place cash, and Benavid ez's 6-2 wa s third. Results 60 BEG: 1. M ike Reilly (Yam). 60 NOV: 1. Bobby David (Yam): 2. Mark Gabr iel (Suz). 60 INT: 1. Matt Foster (Yam). The Open Money TTwas th e first to fall into Roger 's win column as he went wire to wire. Dan Kane was off second with Jim R osa in the third slot. The premier event was the O pe n Mo ney h alf mile, a nd Pete H ames a ttacked it with a vengeance, ta ki ng th e lead at the start and fla t runni ng aw ay with it. J im Rosa wa s off second with Roger Thompson in th ird. Rosa h eld th e seco nd for three laps before Thompson got by and went looking for Hames. Robert Land had been busy moving by Dan Kane on the fourth lap. When Rosa's machine dropped by th e wayside, Land was more than happy to take over third. Greg Nelson moved to fourth , and th ey finished in that order. Bob Graves turned in a beautiful ride to win the Open Amateur/Expert half mile as he got a super start that put him out of traffic and found a line that kept him there. Robert Chapek locked in behind him to nail down second while third was a battle between Don Meiner, John Barricklow and Ken Barrow with Barricklow getting the nod. Results TT . MINI EX: 1.
