Two fir st turn pile-ups left a co u p le of good riders behind, namely john~y Clark and Keith Nielsen. By the second lap Belluzzi took over second, then first from Honda teammate Gunderson. " T h e Rocket" moved up fast from his mediocre start to take over third, then second and the inevitable first place. He ate through the pack in an astonishing two laps and pulled away to a 10second lead, taking the checkered decisively. Belluzzi cruised in for a co n sis ten t second while Leckman se ttled for third. Gunderson was plagued with a well known disease, th e wreckies, and ended up in fifth . In the second mota, "The Rocket" roosted into first while jem Hassan and Clark closely followed. Half of the pack of 20 overshot the first turn, but none were left too far behind. Bell u zzi slipped into third with Gunderson not far behind. By midway Dobbs had an insurmountable eight-second lead over Clark, and the positions remained the same under the ch eckered. G u nderson pressured Bell uzzi and went down in the process, losing two position s and taking the checkered sixth with Steve Stu lt z taking fourth and George Bus tos right behind. Cunningham went on to take the win followed by Hoffman, Stanford and Peters. It was Cunningham again who jammed ' into the lead at the start of the second moto while pursued by Hoffman, Suzuki Country's Steve Anderson (Suz) and Pet ers. There is also a terrific tu rnout from the race kart grou p, a nd their races have all the bi ke peop le up and watching. In the Pro races each week, th ey look like they're taking tu rns in who takes home the mon ey . . . of course not delibera tely,' bu t they all ge t a chance to win. Th is week it was Roger Thompson ' with the lion's share. In 500cc Intermed ia te/Pro , . Tommy Walton go t the first lead, bu t by the end of lap one it was Roger off and running. Chris Cannon slid on up in the pack and got firm ly on Thompson's rear wheel, app lying a lot of pressure to the youngster, but h e didn 't get fazed and continued on for the win . Back a bit, the best kind of 'skiddin ' was goi ng on between joel Windham and jeff johnson wh ile first Intermediate, Orlando Lam boy, held down seventh overall in the big field . Next race coming around the north turn in second spot on the stan, Roger unloaded. He tucked himself into a very small package, and somehow they all missed him ... spooky! On the restart he was out front again , Cannon second then Dan Kane, but all eyes were on the ambulance attendants helping Tommy Walton who'd just pulled off the track obviously in a lot of pain. Ever twea ked a leg when th ey've just taken the pins out of it? just three Open Pro s showed, and Pete Hames had bike problems a nd pulled off. Thompson had been leading anyway, and he j ust went on leading jeff Springman home. Next round it was Hames all the way , then Rog er and johnson, but with Pete a DN F first time. ou t, Roger didn 't have to win ' it to get firs t overall. He was happily making p lans after th e race on where he'd spend all his ea rnings to fix up his new 250 Knigh t Kawasaki he' s got for the 250cc wars . Results . 125 JR: 1. Dunes night MJ~ By Tom Corley VALEN CIA, CA, JU NE 18 For many of the racers who were gradua ting fro m school, ton ight wa s a party n ight. This ca u se d tonight' s America n Motocross Enterprises race at the Dunes to be somewhat smaller than usual. H o w ever , in the com ing mo nt hs the turnout is going to be huge for the 1982 AME Summer Series which will be sponsored by Maico West and Crossline. Even when there is a large turnout of 125cc Pros you can expect Bobby " BK" Kline to take the win. Tonight there were onl y three riders so it was an easy task for Kline to win . Perry Cendro has been racing at the Dunes for a few years, and he returned to the actio n on a new Kawasaki 125. Berry - -
