While Michael Bast was teach ing speedway in Denver, there were a lot of ri ders lea r n ing the hard wa y here. Chris Mistretta, after losing a wheelie on the back ch u te, actuall y slid backwards on top of the rail abou t 50 feet before going over the wall . T o the cheers of the crowd, he on ly appeared to h ave cut h is hand but walked aw a y and wa ved to th e crowd . In th e Seco nd Di vision main event, Ben tl y Barrett, starting from th e zero, managed to main ta in hi s lead th ro u gh ou t the race, while Scott Talkington took second , and Bo b " 1don ' t-stop- fo r-red -flag s" O tt took third. , The Han d ica p main sta rted with Dennis Bra nsford and Guy Ermolenko , both off the 20, a bsolutely dead even until tu rn three where they deci ded one of th em was go ing to be first, which messed them bo th up, allowing Ster li ng Cogar and Eddie "Ingels to get by. By th e next lap Cogar had extended his lead quite securely, while Ingels held on to second, a nd Ermo len ko took th ird. The Scra tch main pl aced Mik e Curoso in the pole posit ion with Eddie Ingels in number two, Mik e Faria in the number three slo t and Gene Woods o n the outside. The ga te flew up, and Curoso sho t out firs t, but Woods, happy to see so me dirt on th e track, h eld on to his o u tside position and go t by Curo so.
