It seemed as if it was to be Car lqv ist's day , with the big Swede cro wnin g his fight for fitn ess with a superb en d-to-end winjn the opener. An d, as he took the lead at the start of th e secon d race, a two-leg victory lo oked on the cards. Neil Hudson was again a vict im of La ckey' s determ in a tion. Both Thorpe a nd Noyce now need good results in Am erica a nd Ca nada to avoid dropping out of th e leadersh ip running altogeth er.
