for Cluzel now, and a career-best
second for Oncu.
In third place, Aegerter won the
championship, at 31 years of age,
and after just missing the MotoE
title recently.
Odendaal had got back on
his bike, worked his way into the
points but fell on his own, then
had to retire in the pits.
"I worked 31 years—or at least
20, 25 years—to become World
Champion, and now I am,"
Aegerter said. "When signing
the contract with Ten Kate Rac-
ing, I knew that we had a world
championship-winning team and a
championship-winning bike."
There's one more round to
go but as is stands Aegerter
has an unassailable 381 points,
Odendaal 68 behind on 313.
CN
for his trouble, finished third.
Dominique Aegerter (Ten Kate
Yamaha) and Steven Odendaal
(Evan Bros Yamaha) had weird
opening races, with Odendaal
repeatedly running wide and let-
ting several riders past, including
Aegerter.
Despite setting his best lap of the
race late on, fifth-placed Aegerter
was finally re-passed by Odendaal
in fourth, who clawed back a
couple of points in the champion-
ship fight, leaving things beautifully
poised for a Sunday showdown.
It was a shame it lasted one
corner before Gonzalez got over-
ambitions and skittled Odendaal—
of all people—and held up most
of the field as Cluzel and Oncu
made an escape.
