and we will get back on the Ya- maha R1 and try to improve." What Portimao holds we won't know until we get there in a very few days' time, but as the Euro- pean sector of the season ends there, it will be an important time to put in some championship- defining results for both lead Kawasaki and Yamaha riders. In the points, Razgatlioglu has 449, Rea 429, Redding 375, with Rinaldi and Locatelli tied at 227. WorldSSP A first-ever WorldSSP Superpole for Philipp Ottl (Kawasaki Puccetti Racing) saw him take pole for the canceled Saturday race and then again on Sunday, when the lone race of the WorldSSP weekend actually took place. From the start Ottl fancied his chances of a first WorldSSP race win, but championship leader Dominique Aegerter (Ten Kate Yamaha) had other ideas. is not an easy track. Up, down, small corners, fast corner, but I'm ready to fight." It was another tough weekend for Garrett Gerloff, the Texan tak- ing a pair of 10th-place finishes on his GRT Yamaha. "Everybody at the GRT Ya- maha team feels horrible about what happened yesterday in the WorldSSP300 race," Gerloff said. "Our thoughts go out to Dean Berta Vinales' family and we hope they will find healing through this. The fact that they wanted us to race today speaks volumes about their racing spirit and our day was a tribute to him. Our races were a bit tricky. I didn't have the best first lap in either of them, and I had to fight my way through on both occa- sions and by the time I had clear air the guys I was aiming to com- pete with were long gone. It was a disappointing day, but we have another round in just one week, Razgatlioglu, not Redding, who would win two long races, as the tall Turkish rider eased ahead again as Redding ran wide and left an inside line. It was a narrow margin of victory of just 0.113 seconds. Behind, Bautista was into what would be his second podium- position ride of 2021 as he went inside Locatelli after using his Honda's good power and adept braking performance to hold his surprising top-three status. Locatelli was fourth and Rea, almost philosophical about his issues and knowing fifth was as good as it was going to get, lost significant ground to the Jerez double winner Razgatlioglu. Given the darkness and pain that overshadowed Sunday's races, nothing from this weekend was important. But of greatest sig- nificance is that Razgatlioglu took a perfect set of the Superpole and all the race wins. He was also relatively ill, which was something else he overcame on Sunday, not just all the other best Superbike riders in the world. "Yeah, I'm sick this weekend," Toprak said from the Media Briefing room. "My voice is dif- ferent. Very sick. Yesterday, I'm not really bad, but today I'm very bad. But, it's okay. I try every- thing for power. This weekend is finished and next weekend I think I'm going to be much better to come back more strong. Also in the races, I was not really tired. I don't know why. But Portimao ROUND 10 / SEPTEMBER 24-26, 2021 CIRCUITO DE JEREZ – ANGEL NIETO / JEREZ DE LA FRONTERA, SPAIN P66 ROAD RACE I FIM SUPERBIKE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP It was another tough round for Garrett Gerloff with a pair of 10th-place finishes.
