T
he MV Agusta F3 RR has
always been an oddball
of a sport bike. Built in
the same guise as the Suzuki
GSX-R750, it's always been a
bike without a class, but that's
all about to change because in
2022, the WorldSSP Champion-
ship is set to drastically change
its rulebook to allow 800cc
triples and 900cc twins into their
ranks. Turns out MV was right all
along.
For this momentous occasion,
MV Agusta has given its three-
cylinder 800 a large workover,
complete with engine upgrades,
new aero and frame mods, and a
new electronics platform.
MV Agusta is claiming 145
horsepower from the now Euro
5-compliant counter-rotating
crank triple that houses new
crank and conrod bearings,
new fuel injectors, a new clutch
basket and a reworked exhaust
system. Go for the optional Rac-
ing Kit and that gets boosted to
153 horsepower thanks to the
gorgeous and ultra-loud Akrapo-
vic muffler and ECU upgrade.
There's also a single seat cover,
and CNC machined brake and
clutch levers and fuel cap.
The chassis gets new frame
plates to increase torsional and
lateral rigidity, but the big news
is the wheels are seven percent
lighter than before which gives a
10 percent decrease in their mo-
ment of inertia for lighter turning,
shorter braking distances and
quicker acceleration.
