INTERVIEW P84 WORLD SUPERBIKE DIRECTOR DANIEL CARRERA From National-level Superbike racing? Our first idea was to reduce the technical package. Due to the compromise we have had to have with the manufacturers, we were not able to reach this level to allow us to bring teams from the local championships. Also interest from teams which are in the World Superbike paddock already, teams that think if we reduce the technical costs they will be able to afford it. Also we have good inputs from new manufacturers who would like to be involved and, as I said, I think in three years time when we reach the level of 200,000 Euros. We will be working every year on the technical aspects and in three years time we would like to reach a point where really the teams who are competing in the local championships are able to jump to Superbikes. This is our objective. And riders jumping between MotoGP and World Superbike? This will start to happen. Before we were competing so obviously you would not make an offer to a rider to go to another championship, but because of this new synergy between the championships it can happen. We know that there are riders competing in Moto2 who do not have any chance to go to MotoGP even if they are fourth or fifth at the end of the season. Only if you are the first will you be able to jump, like Pol [Espargaro] or [Marc] Marquez. We have to explain that if you got to Superbikes and win Superbike, then you will have real chances to jump to MotoGP. This will start from next season for sure. It will be easier now. What about even somebody, for an example, like Nicky Hayden, as Ducati is such an important manufacturer both in MotoGP and World Superbike. Do you help Nicky to be in MotoGP and could you therefore help him to be in World Superbike in the future? What we have to understand is derstand that now we have the European Junior Cup, Red Bull Rookies, Supersport, Moto3, Moto2 to create a 'scale' where a rider can grow. Okay, you are performing here in Moto3, why you do not try in Supersport and if you perform well there why do you not try in Moto2? We want to create this exchange between the championships. What we found is that when we arrived here the teams said, 'Ah, Dorna is here, bring us the money!" But this is not the concept. " WE WANT TO KEEP THESE BECAUSE CHAMPIONSHIPS SEPARATED ONE IS PROTOTYPE CLASS AND ONE IS A SERIES-BIKE CLASS - THIS IS WHY WE ARE FOCUSING ON THE TECHNICAL REGULATIONS. " that for a rider nowadays MotoGP is 10 times Superbikes. So if you are in Moto2 and want to come to Superbikes the support you are getting from the sponsors most probably if you offer this possibility nowadays they would never accept it. This is the situation. The impact and exposure you have in Moto2 is much bigger than in Superbike. I think riders will come next season because they spend a lot of time in MotoGP, some years, and they are not growing there, but the top riders? We want to make some riders un- Dorna has this championship now, but it is a completely separate business unit [from MotoGP or any other Dorna business] for us. If we are able to generate income for this championship because we are able to sell, to sign more contracts with broadcasters, then we will be able to share the benefits with the teams. But the teams were saying that 'in MotoGP you are giving this contribution.' But we are doing that because we are growing income so it has to be done relative to the income. CN
