P28 IN THE WIND all already taken. But that didn't keep the veteran racer from competing. Metcalfe headed north and is currently competing in the Canadian National MX Series, but he ultimately wants to get back to racing in the U.S. again and used a break in the Canadian Series to race Southwick (a track he's performed well in the past) and prove to the big teams that he still has what it takes to do well and is a viable candidate for a major ride. He certainly showed that he's got "national" speed at Southwick, after coming close to a podium finish. And he did so riding his "back-up" Kawasaki as a true privateer. Metcalfe was seen hanging around at length with the SmarTop/MotoConcepts guys, as he surfed the pits getting re- acquainted with old friends and teams. Metcalfe said he enjoyed his day at Southwick, adding that we haven't seen the last of him just yet. "I'm really happy with my finish today," he said. "This was so much fun, being back in the States racing, and I plan on coming back for Unadilla." Shan Moore F ormer AMA EnduroCross Champion Taylor Robert came away with the gold medal at the X Games Enduro X in Munich, Germany, on June 29. The Monster Energy Kawasaki rider became the third different rider this year to win gold, joining previous winners Taddy Blazusiak (Brazil) and Mike Brown (Barcelona). However, it looked at first as though Brown would make it two in a row after the FMF/KTM rider blasted into the early lead after taking the holeshot, but a mistake by Brown on the slippery and technically challenging course soon after allowed Robert to move to the front. From there, Robert would never relinquish the top spot, but he did have a few scary moments – most of them coming on a rocky and wet climb - that allowed Spain's Alfredo Gomez to get close. "It was really hard because the mud still came up through PHOTOGRAPHY BY NICK GUISE-SMITH/ESPN IMAGES ROBERT GRABS THE GOLD Taylor Robert took home Gold at the X Games Enduro X in Munich. all the dirt [that was added after hard rain]," Robert said. "Pretty much every obstacle was wet, and when they get wet, they get really slippery." Fast qualifier Taddy Blazusiak was a favorite to win but the Red Bull KTM rider ran into problems right away when he fell off the side of the rock mound and had to spend the rest of the race coming up through the field. He did well, though, taking home a bronze medal. Husaberg's Graham Jarvis, recent Erzberg winner, finished fourth, while Brown slipped back to fifth. Kyle Redmond, Cory Graffunder, Jonny Walker, Gary Sutherlin and Colton Haaker completed the top 10.
