Redline Wins Baja 400

ollowing final review by the
SCORE Competition Review
Board (CRB) it was determined
that the team led by Shane Red-
line was the overall motorcycle
and Pro Moto Unlimited class
winner at the 2nd SCORE Baja
400, presented by VP Racing
Fuels, September 17-19.
"After reviewing all the tracking
data and other input from race
officials, the Competition Review
Board of independent racers
assessed a 10-minute penalty
to the number 5x motorcycle of
Derek Ausserbauer for imped-
ing another racer," said Jose A.
Grijalva, SCORE President/Race
Director. "The penalty moved the
number 22x motorcycle of Shane
Redline into first place in Pro
Moto Unlimited with the number-
5x motorcycle of Ausserbauer
and Colton Udallofficially finishing
in second place."
The Honda CRF450X-mount-
ed Redline team was made up of
six riders and were declared the
winners, completing the race in
nine hours, 28 minutes and three
seconds, with a speed average
of 42.25 mph. Redline, who
was also the driver of record in a
trophy truck, started for the team
but only traveled a few hundred
yards before handing the bike
over to teammate Chris Phillips,
who then shared duties with Phil-
lip Herrera, Larry Serna, Carlos
Pardini and Brandon Prieto to get
the overall motorcycle win, de-
spite the Colton Udall and Derek
Ausserbauer team crossing the
finish line physically in first place.
"Technical, super fun, dusty,
but that's Baja," said Chris Phil-
lips. "It's very silty coming back
up. But we are here; that is all
that matters. We will be out here
for the SCORE Baja 1000 and
chase the 5x for sure and give
it all we got. We had a couple
mistakes this race, but we will
clean it up."
"It was a good day out there,"
Ausserbauer said. "Colton did
some magician moves. He
handed me the bike two minutes
up. We are racing on super high-
speed roads. That was legend-
ary. That fired me up to keep up
the pace."
The Fernando Beltran/Arturo
Salas team topped the Pro Moto
Limited class (motorcycles under
400cc); Scott McIntosh won Pro
Moto 60 (riders over the age of
60); Giovanni Spinali and John
Griffin won Pro Moto 50; Ryan Li-
ebelt, Steve Tichner and Greg Bar-
donnex won Pro Moto 40; James
Justin topped Pro Moto 30, and
Juan Carlos Salvatierra topped the
Pro Moto Ironman class.
