Catalunya weekend as the best independent rider," Gerloff said. "We had a difficult day yesterday, but it was nice to have a strong warm-up today to set us up well for the Superpole race. I did not have a bad race, but I couldn't improve my starting position as much as I would have liked. Then, in the full-length race, I could finally get a good start to put myself in a solid position, but we were just missing a little bit of pace to compete with the leaders." In the end, Razgatlioglu now leads Rea by one point, 399 to 398, with Redding at 339, Rinaldi now fourth with 218, Locatelli with 201 and the luckless Lowes with 192. WorldSSP Manuel Gonzalez (ParkinGo Yamaha) secured the Super- pole "win" on Saturday morning, before going on to take a wet race second place in race one and then a perfectly judged win in race two. He had to give best to the reborn Randy Krummenacher in what was suddenly a wet race one, just after the dry start. Since he moved to the CM Racing Ya- maha team, Krummenacher has been on top form, and he was the best judge of the conditions in the opening Catalan race. Loic Arbel (Andotrans team Torrento Yamaha) stayed out on slicks and led for a long time, dropped back as almost every- body else went in for full wets, then gained places for sixth as the track dried out slowly. Krummenacher was fully 16 seconds up on second placed Gonzalez, who just held off Raf- faele de Rosa (Orelac VerdNatura Kawasaki)—a portent of things to come in very different circumstanc- es in race two. Can Oncu (Kawasa- ki Puccetti Racing) was fourth, but he would crash out of Race Two. Philipp Ottl (Kawasaki Puccetti Racing) was fifth, but he was out of step with his bike in Barcelona and was only eighth in race two. Championship challenger Steven Odendaal (Evan Bros Ya- maha) was eighth in the opener and penalized for making too fast a pitstop intervention. Chasing the not-present championship leader Dominique Aegerter's points total, Odendaal had a hard Barcelona weekend, well off the podium in each race. In the second race, Gonzalez was just too good for everyone but only showed it right at the end, as he pounced on the luckless De Rosa, who was on course for his first-ever WorldSSP Race win until the ParkinGO Yamaha came through to beat him by a tiny 0.021 seconds. Nikki Tuuli (MV Agusta Corse Clienti) was a fast arriving third, just 0.095 seconds from Gonzalez. In the points, the absent Aegerter ended up 45 ahead of Odendaal, with the latter seventh in race two. Third is Gonzalez, some 99 points behind the Swiss points leader. Fourth is Ottl, and the injured Luca Bernardi is fifth. Gordon Ritchie WorldSBK Race One 1. Scott Redding (Duc) 2. Axel Bassani (Duc) 3. Michael Ruben Rinaldi (Duc) 4. Jonathan Rea (Kaw) 5.
