Bou Crowned, Spain Wins Trial de Nations T oni Bou was crowned World Champion twice over the September 18-19 weekend in Portugal. The first crowning came on Saturday when the Spaniard wrapped up the 2021 FIM TrialGP with the day's victory. "This year has been very spe- cial for me because at the begin- ning things were very complicated with the injury just a month before the start of the championship," said Bou. "There will come a year when I will not be able to win—I've won for 15 consecutive years—but the fact that I got injured just be- fore the start of the world cham- pionship made it special, and I didn't want to lose a champion- ship in this way. Once again, we battled 100 percent, I tried to get into shape as the championship progressed and the fact that I had a very good work rate before I got injured also helped me to recover faster." The very next day at the same location, Bou was a member of the winning Spanish team at the Trial des Nations. Bou, Adam Raga and Jaime Busto gave Spain its 27th victory in the TdN. The team dominated in Portugal, collecting just one penalty point on the day. France was second and Italy third. CN IN THE WIND P40 Toni Bou wrapped up the 2021 FIM TrialGP Championship in Portugal and the very next day helped Team Spain win the Trial des Nations for the 27th time. Fujinami Retires After A 26-Year Run T akahisa Fujinami has hung up his boots after 26 years on the FIM World Championship TrialGP cir- cuit. The Repsol Honda Team rider competed for the last time in Portugal, September 18, where he placed seventh. "I firmly believe that the time has come to close the curtain on my career as a world trial champion- ship rider after 26 years in the competition," he said. "Thanks to everyone's support, over this period, I have been able to make trial my profession and perform at a more than satisfactory level for over a quarter of a century. Thank you very much. They have been 26 great years." CN Takahisa Fujinami's one and only Trials World Championship came in 2004. He retires at the age of 41 with 34 World Championship wins. PHOTO: HONDA HRC
