LOOKING BACK
The all-new, 1982 water-cooled Suzuki RM250Z motocrosser was
featured on the cover of Cycle News 40 years ago... Garth Brow won
the San Jose Mile, while Mike Kidd and Gary Scott moved into a tie
for the GNC points lead... The AMA Trans-USA got started in Lexington,
Ohio, and Broc Glover (250cc) and Mark Barnett (125cc) were the big
winners... Team USA, made up of Danny LaPorte, Johnny O'Mara,
Donnie Hansen and Chuck Sun, won the Motocross des Nations in
Bielstein, West Germany.
A photo of Tom Rockwood leading Jody Nicholas during the AMA National
at Ascot Park was featured on the cover of Cycle News 50 years ago, as
was a photo from the ISDE at the Isle of Man. We were excited that the
U.S. Trophy Team finished a respectable fourth. We said Team America can
no longer be called "also-rans"... Belgians Sylvain Geboers and Gaston
Rahier were some of the big winners at an AMA international motocross at
Peaceful Valley MX, in Boise, Idaho.
