50 Years Ago OCTOBER 5, 1971 40 Years Ago OCTOBER 2, 1981 P126 LOOKING BACK The all-new, 1982 water-cooled Suzuki RM250Z motocrosser was featured on the cover of Cycle News 40 years ago... Garth Brow won the San Jose Mile, while Mike Kidd and Gary Scott moved into a tie for the GNC points lead... The AMA Trans-USA got started in Lexington, Ohio, and Broc Glover (250cc) and Mark Barnett (125cc) were the big winners... Team USA, made up of Danny LaPorte, Johnny O'Mara, Donnie Hansen and Chuck Sun, won the Motocross des Nations in Bielstein, West Germany. A photo of Tom Rockwood leading Jody Nicholas during the AMA National at Ascot Park was featured on the cover of Cycle News 50 years ago, as was a photo from the ISDE at the Isle of Man. We were excited that the U.S. Trophy Team finished a respectable fourth. We said Team America can no longer be called "also-rans"... Belgians Sylvain Geboers and Gaston Rahier were some of the big winners at an AMA international motocross at Peaceful Valley MX, in Boise, Idaho. CZ-mounted Brad Lackey competed in the AMA international motocross in Boise, Idaho, 50 years ago. Team USA won the Motocross of Nations in Germany 40 years ago.
