Aldana Wins at Castle Rock b y Pennie Doutt CASTLE ROCK, WAS., Ma y 26, - A few dark cl ouds passing overhead, th reatening to dump m o re rain on the alr eady soaked track for the fir st Regional Championship at Castle Rock Fairgrounds to n igh t didn 't damp en th e spirits of the ra cers. Due to the co ndition of the track, which was soft and m ushy and easily tom u p, n o track r eco rd was se t tonig~t. In fa ct, the times were fairly slow WIth Dave Aldana taking hi s Norton around fo r a fast ti me of 24.40. The Juniors d id not time in due to the late start, heats we re run to. d eterm in e T ro p hy Dash entrants. Al dana won the first Expe rt Heat with Randy Skiver placing se co nd. Sonny Burres took the second heat. as Dick Wascher cam e in se cond. The third heat wa s won b y Jim Jones, Ch uck Joyner took second. The Expert Trophy Dash consisted of Aldana, Skiver, Randy Scott, a nd Eddie Herrmann. Aldan a took the. lead and won th e Trophy with Skiver again se c o n d . . Pat Marinacci grabbed the lead in th e Expert Semi with Scott, R oss R obe r~ , and J im Einar sson in close pursuit, Marinac d main tained the lead throughout fo r th e win. Scott hung o n to second. Then , comi ng around th e swe ep e r in to th e straight for th e ch ec ke red , Scott bl e w his en gine j us t y ard s fr om th e finish line and Einarr~on je tted b y t o take se cond and final transfer t o th e main . . The Expert Main got under way only to have tw o men go d own . In th e restart, S kiv er an d J ones went d own an d the race was s topped ag ain . On the th ird start, . things we re lo oking good with Skive r in th e le ad, Aldana second an d E inarsson third, On the second la p Ein arrso n 's batte ry sh o rted o u t. This m oved Burres into third and Wasch er into fourth. Bra ckenberry was fi fth, J oyn er six th , Mark Williams seven th , and Marin acci eig h th o Aldan a passed S kive r to take ove r fi rs t and h eld it fo r t wo laps. T hen Skiver repassed .A lda na to take back th e lead. Marinacci p assed Williams to take o ver se ve n th . Winning h is h eat ra ce and placing th ird in the Novice Trophy Dash , Randy Scis m went o n to w in the Novice Main. Bill Oliver winner of th e Trophy D ash, went down an d was out of the ra ce.
