There were ove r 3 00 riders ready to go off at 9: 30 a.rn , The Experts, Amateurs and Novices were first, followed b y the Beginners. The on e lap circuit was des cribed as a fast , big bike co urse. Bob Riley grab be d the lead on his 400 Husky and J eff Wright (Puc) had the fron t sp o t on th e other trail. Orndoff wa s in th e boondock s in th e middle and sp lit the middle at th e smo ke bomb. Riley d id an endo about four miles out, and Orndoff dropped hi s . bi g Hu sk y into fifth gear and went out o f sight in the 5 mile long sp eed way. J eff Wright c o uld n ' t match the power on his 175, and they finished 1-2 . After the ra ce Orndoff said, " T h is group ' lays out a fun course , not a machin e breaker; running cross grain", acros s the mountains was really the o nly rough spot." Wright was next in followed b y Riley who was able to shake the sand off an d get the bike fir ed up' and back into the race . James Bragg was next, followed by a very fast No vice Dixie Sanders. T he word is that D ixie has been moved up a class after his sh ow of teday , Jim Irby pulled in next followed by Jim Francis who took fir st Amateur. First 125 Novice went to Mike Hetherington on a Zundapp. B. McDonald took first 250 Novice on a Yamaha, and the firs t 100 Expert was none other t han D. T aylor on a Hodaka. First Beginner was Bill Atcheson on a 250CZ. Ron Burpo of D.RA. has announced that there will be a Silver Cup Invita tio n al, for the first 50 high point riders given each 4 mon th period.
