The course was well marked ' at all times, but required an o pen eye. After a few more trails and ro cks, the course dropped onto a smooth dirt road. The 20 MPH speed gave time for a drink from th e can teen , a quick tune up, and a short nap. If you were in to your tim e • keeping, it didn't hurt to be a bit ea:ly when the rough stuff started again. . There were some sharp rocks in evidence, and being ahead kept tires and rims more intact. (Too bad I was sure they were going to throw a check on that road.) More fun trails , a sandy canyon run or two, and the uphills came . The first one was still solid when I got there and not too much trouble. As usual , the problem is getting caught behind someone stopping to check out the scenery. The second hill was not as steep and .mu ch more difficult. Rocks made it look solid , but it wasn't. A nice head of steam was in order. Getting caugh t behind someone on on e of those dirty rotten four-stroke thu mpers was not the way to do it. They just look ba ck and grin . From there on in it was difficult n ot to ge t ahead of schedule. Everyone ex changed strange looks, stopped for awhile, and got in at least a couple of minutes early. Still, that last loop was really a good time and but for the hills, it was easier than the first. If you didn't try it you should have, Why, there wa s a young lady, who appeared to be about ten, riding a mini, who kept passing me .
