So mewhere on the first loop Brooks got off, and altho ugh he wo uld no t co mmen t, obvio usly damaged his bike as he DNF'd. Mayes kept the lead , extending it d uring the second lo op to take another first o veral l, h is th ird in the desert this year. The Badgers M.C. is c omp osed of me mbers of the Los Angeles Police, and although is might no t have been expected, they put on a fine race, one . that riders said was among the best the y had ever ridden. Good pub lic re lations fo r the fo rce; dese rt racers learned tha t cops aren't such ba d guys after all. Novices had a great race going between Ron Pinion on a 250 Yamaha, Ernest Harleybue on a 4 00 Hus ky, an d Tom Bullock o n a 250 Yamaha. When the dust cleared th e three of the m sat on the fin ish line in that o rder. . With the Los Angeles Polic em en puttin g on the race you may rest assu red that every th ing w as o rde rly and t here was n o pit raci ng for a change.
