All o f th e Pen ton gang cam e in show ing th e sa m e style an d aggr essive n ess that rep resented us so well in the 4 7th IS DT in Czech o slovak ia. A la rge p e rce n tage of th ese and othe r rid ers quit fro m h eat a n d over e xertion w h en they h it th e fi f th ch eck. Wh en th e whole affair w as over o n ly 87 of the 232 en thusiastic starters we re aro und to p ut in a cla im for a med al. S ome h ad been di squalified for outside assistance. but if e ve ry on e wh o h a d re ceived a litt le help on the sid e lik e trans mi ssi ons and fron t wheels , had b een disqualified, th e Gold m edal winners would have had many mi ssin g from th eir ra n ks. You might p u t it th is wa y : I f al l th e compe titors were to h a ve a equ al op portu ni ty, th ey would all h ave to be abl e to a fford to hav e their own fac tory su p port pe opl e a t the eve n t.
