"WE KNOW YOU HAVE A HEADACE, BUT . : '" '" I read with interest your article on M .... the Triumph 500 team bikes and was '" " Q. '" not too su rp rised to find that they had '" . changed the stock forks to a Rickman set-up. the stock fo rks are so weak that > start a good '" s someone couldbut straightening business doing nothing them. I ~ was a little more surprised to find a w Triumph ad in the next issue stating Z w that th e Triumph team had done well -' o with these bikes at the Potosi Trials . >- bikes with "very minor changes" they o said. I think a would-be Triumph 500 buyer would think of a $150 set of forks as mo re than a "very m ino r change." Of course, tha t ad wasn'ras bad as the one in the Feb. 13 issue stating that the Rickman that qualified fastest at the Houston national was a STOCK Rickman . Mos t people knew that bike had a Boyd and Stellings frame . Rickman knew, Cycle News knew. I also noticed in the sa me issue that had the Triumph team bikes a story o n page seve n stating th at Po meroy had won t he first 250 G ran d Prix , then on page 12 I see a Maico ad stating th at Han s Maisc h won th e sa me race. Well, m ay be th ey read The Latest Poo p on page seven also, it stated, in so many words, t hat Han s Maisch had indeed won the race o n a Maico, I though t editors we re supposed to straigh ten out th ings like the "Pomeroy or Maisch" confusion before the paper gets printed. And is it the policy of Cycle Ne ws to print ads that they know a re misleading, in the case of the Triu mph. or fraudlent ads, as in the case of the Rickman? Looks like Cycle News is growing up. "Cycle World" style. TERRY HANDELN San Francisco, Calif. WHERE YOUR MONEY GOES WHIZZ-Z-Z O ne th in g I' ve neve r see n m en ti oned in the green stickie controversy is this: When you decide to change rear fenders, and therefo re try to peel off the sticker to put on the new fender, it decides to come off in a thousand pieces. So, like a good citizen should, you run down to the DMV, explain the situation. and find that you have to shell out another $3 fo r a replacement. You know. it seems that for $15 a shot in the first place, we should get (at least) a sticker that can change fenders when you want to. When 'l asked the clerk where the 53 would go, he see med baffled and co u ld n ' t give me an answer. Neither could anyone else in the office. I've decided not to pay till I do find out, and from lo o kin g at all the nothings we've gotten so far, I'm wondering if it was w o rth it to pay th e 515 in the first place. . Does anybody know where this 53 replacem en t fee is goi ng to? DAVE GA RDNER Ba rstow, Calif. It goes to DMV, fo r expenses...Ed. I recen tly acq uired a m o t orcycle which I haven't ever seen before and was wondering if I m igh t receive some information on this bike. I t is called a \\' hizzer , and as near as I can tell, it is about 20 years old. If there is anyone who can tell me anything about it. I would be very satisfied. The bike is almost original except for the seat. which was taken off, A new , homemade one was put on in its place. lt looks like the bike was used for a paper route, and the paper carrier is still intact. There are still fan belts on it an d the springer front end. Please see if there is anyone who migh t be familiar wi th it so I can fix it up and then sell it, or maybe use it as my new desert thumper. Vespa Beware. JOHN D URB IN 545 W. Randall Rial t o . We did and was told t hey would mail the trophies (gave the n am es, address etc.) . Since then we h ave not received our Lucky yo u.
