Brian Brecker had no problems on his first Bultaco ride .
100 Experts Cord is Brooks IDKW) and Larry Roesoler (H-D) swapped it ou t .
T riumph. Leon Prescott and Larry Ranh
o n a 450 Honda were a dist an t seco nd,
with Scott Walker and A .C. Bakken on a
500 Yamaha not too far behin d.
The SOOAm/ Ex class was th e first
real surprise of th e weekend . Brian
Brecker used to a CZ, bu t just rece ntly
gave it up for a Bultaco. Th is was his
first ride o n the used Bul, and th e
com bination sure wo rks. Brian broke
away from a sta r studde d pack o n the
first lap and no o ne ever saw him again,
exc ept to be passed. He claimed that th e
Bul wasn' t very fast. The stock " pickle'
o n th e end of 'the ex pansion chambe r
woul d te nd t o mak e o ne a believer.
Mit ch Mayes (Hus) seemed a bit
lackadaisical abo ut the whole thing in
the first hou r, bu t really got it on in th e
seco nd . On th e twelfth lap he moved
into seco nd an d slowly began to pick up
time o n Breck er. He still trailed by 30
seco nds at ยท th e finis h . Jack Kneb el
move d up fro m a slow sta rt to take
third o n h is CZ. Bill Salt zman (H us) got
the fo urt h spo t., and T roy Hollis (CZ)
d ropped two spo ts o n th e last lap to be
fift h , A.C. Bakk en (Hus) having just
been a monkey on a hack , look ed a
little tir ed and dropped ba ck t o sixth .
Both days of racing went smoo thly
and amazingly th ere was only one inj ury
treated by th e mea t wagon. The course
was tight, almost rnot ocrossy, which
met with app roval from so me and
exhau stio n fro m ot he rs. At wor st , the
co urse was fun for th e first hour and
'e xh a u s t i ng for the seco nd. One
criticism : It' sure was a drag t ryi ng to
find som e place to cam p Saturday night.
Way out front of the linle Experts was Tom Brooks IDKW).
