It is th e third straight we ek in a row tha t the Scott-Triumph comb ina ti on .h as hit the bullseye. Time trials produced the fastest track of the n ew season, with all fo ur Dash qualifiers well into the tw en ty-two se co nd bracket. Scott and T om Rockwood were the two fastest, with Mert Lawwill and Dewayne Keeter three-four on Harleys. j . Scott opened the program with a Heat win o ver Dave Aldana who returned his Norton efforts to dirt fro m the paved tracks of Europe. Terry Dorsch, Ro ckwood and Keeter made it a three rider duel in the second Hea t. It was the new Triumphs ver sus the allo y Harleys in the Dash, but the end result showed the Triumphs of Scott and Rockwood n early a straightaway ahead at the end of three laps . Though Rockwood took the lead for two laps, in the end it was Scott's third Dash wi n in fou r weeks. Scott grabbed the lead on the first lap of the Expe rt 'Fin al with Aldana and Keeter close on the ea rly round. Midway in the race, first ye ar Experts, Denny Kanegae an d Bri an LaPlante, started a five rider mi xup th at so me ho w found eve rybody staying on their wh eels but breaking up th e p ack -into tw o di visions. Then on lap twelve an other first year Expert, Ron Powell, fell on the North tum , kn ocking himself ou t and brin ging o ut th e red fla g to en d th e race, four lap s sh y o f th e regulati on fin ish. Powell later was re vived and walked in to th e infi eld under hi s own p ower. The closes t and lon gest fough t race o f the ni ght came in th e Junior Final wh en Yamah a mounted Ri ck Hocking, and BSA threat Danny H odd e squared off. Ea ch rider had won hi s Heat, and Ho ck ie h ad topped th e field in time C1. M .... Hocking was second fast. Hocking got to th e co m er first in the Final, and it may ha ve decided the race . The two were never far enough apart to • give either the edge, with Ho ckie trying to pass in ea ch of th e last four laps. Hocking held at the finish to win his first half-mile Final o f the year, with Hockie less than a bike length back. Rob Morrison (N or) was a close third ear ly in th e race but .dropped off the pa ce to finish third, but o u t of contention at the fini sh . On ce again, · the Novi ce class has produced a new flash . The first two weeks it was T om Berry t then it was Gary Bevans, thi s time it wa s new comer, Ed A k sland, younger brother of race-tuner Bud Aksland. · Yo ung Ed wh eeled hi s Yam ah a fr om th e back row of his Heat to win with the fastest He at tim e o f the six events for th e n ew riders. Then he shot into th e lead o n the third lap o f th e Fin al over J ef f Davidson and went on to win Wit h John Gen nia away for the weekend, Hocking (3 1Z) and Hockie battled for Junior bucks wit h Hock ing taki ng most of t he change. the Novi ce Final , with a co nvincin g ride for one that has ridden so few time s on the fastest half-mile in ra cin g. Stockton 's Alex Jorgensen pulled on ly a fourth place in his Heat and then came into the Semi as an alternate, starting las t. He won the Semi and for the third time to nig h t lin ed up in the second row when the Main event came around. J o rgy and Tom Berry th en came throu gh th e pack to chase AksIand, with Berry takin g ' second for th e sec ond we ek in a row and J orgy in a close third. Ascot fans were treated to two extra highligh ts. One w as th e appearanc e of Navy Lieuten ant David Rehmann, a POW for over six y ears . Th e second was Mercu ry Morris, th e all-pro running b ack fo r the Miami D olphin s, th e Supe r Bowl Ch ampions. Morris, wh o is in town taking cycle riding lessons fr om R oxy R ockwood fo r a movie, rode T orn Ro ckw ood 's spare . Triumph ar ound th e half-mile and then sw ung in to th e Dash winner's circle to mee t Lt. Rehman n and present th e trophy to G ary Scott.
