Apr. 23, 1973 - In the very last ra ce of the Anglo-American Easter Match series, th e British team pulled out an 18 point lead to win aft er finding themselves tied at the end o f the fifth race. The star o f th e sh ow was Peter William s wh o won both races here at Oulton Park to tie Yvon DuHamel for the lead in individual points. ,_ RACE FIV E: Aldana can road race. Just like the day before , the rain stopped as the bikes came to the grid . The wet track was an exc elle n t equalizer since OuIton, the fastest of the three tra cks, seemed to otherwise favor the Kawasakis and Suzukis. Somebody forgot to tell Art Baumann, though. He got his usual sna p py start and then led Peter Williams for several laps. The real surprise was in i third place where Dave A ldana was well ah ead of Paul Smart and Dave Croxford. David had finally gotten rid of his ignition woes, and the wet track seemed to be bothering him not at all. Back in the pack, Yvon DuHamel was having problems changing gears. .Befo re the race was over, both he and Baumann would- be struck with gear ch an ge problems , and Cliff Carr would find his gearing wrong. But Baumann was still battling with Williams as Paul Smart got past Croxford and went to wo rk on Aldana. But Aldana was flying. He doesn 't mind getting a bit slidey and the wet track wasn't hurting any any. In the last tum h e would hit a big bump and do a giant wobble - every lap. A t halfway, Williams slipped by Baumann to cheers from the crowd and continued to go. ยท Ba ck in the pack Nixon and Duflamel were at it again , fighting it out until Nixon slo we d again . Cliff Carr had replaced Gary Fisher who had blown the engine on SehI's Harley ill practice . With two lap s to . go, Smart finall )! saw a chance to get by Aldana, and Croxford was hot on . his heels. Then Baumann had gearbox difficulties and Smart passed him also . Instead of deciding anything, the second-to-last ra ce had made everything closer. Williams only trailed DuHamel by one pain t, but the b ig news was that the team scores were all tied up at 339 each . . RACE 5 RESU L TS Peter Will iams (J.P. Nor), 16. Paul Smart (Suz}, 15 .
