POTOSI, MO ., Ap ril 8 - Th e sec o nd in
t he serie s of AMA ISDT qualifi ers

Malcolm Smith an d his -: 250 Husky
picking up the individual wi n . On e o f
the Husqvama Trad e Teams was second
overall. followed by Triumph, Yankee
and Bultaco. The list of 93 fin ishers
(out of over 300 st arters ) includes 3 2
gold medals. 4 J silvers and 20 b ronzes.

too much wa ter on th e c ourse and
interm itten t rai n o n Saturday afternoo n
cause d seasoned comp et itors no real
problems.
Most of th e rou te st ay ed off th e
ro ads, using perhap s somewh at less
p avement than a true ISDT route would
hav e. There ar e many miles of relatively
smooth two track trails in the Po tosi
area and the eve nt was set up so
competitors had to avera ge something on
the order of 35 mph on these open trails
to maintain the sc hed ule. Checks were
placed so a co nsiste n t pace would bring
riders into every chec k at rougbly the
.sam e time. If you were early , yo u could
be early a t every chec k; if you were late.
you were pretty consistently late .
