Ri ders really love th is sys tem because they alw ays h ave a good idea of h o w th ey 're d o ing and it 's also easi er for clu bs to get q uick re sults. Loop 1 started with "a tig ht rocky do wn h ill which gave everyone a warnin g of wh at was to come. A sign warned at the canyon 's entry , " T rials Sec tion , Expert an d Master's T rip No. I. He then b acked up, charged with lots of mo men tu m and wh eeli ed ac ro ss. Now that's class. Anyway, we still had th e dry lak e to m ak e up time. T hen so me m ore rough st uff, an off-camber hillclimb, and a bad downhill wi th a secre t che ck at th e b o ttom. T he n on to the fi nish of Loop 1. We asked around and foun d out that so me riders were still holding a zero p oint loss. Boy, here I am, tired already and that w as the easy loop ! S omething tells you in the b ack of your head , n o one is goi ng t o zero this whole en duro. . .Out fo r Loop 2. Wow ! A Hare 'n ' H ound j ust to hit the five mile marker on tim e . We crossed Highway 395 under th e wa t ch ful eye o f th e CHP , u p so me neat cross-country trail to th e top of Govern me nt Peak. Descending th e downhill y ou could see th e next check at the to p of a hillclim b o n th e op posi te can yon wa ll. T hen " Cave Hill " , an o ld mi ne with a tailing p ile on the side of a m o un rain, We went up this h ill wh ich is normally a bad d ow nhill fo r H are 'n' Hounds . T he ch op py t errain th at fo llo we d would reall y t es t y o ur shocks. So m e fun sn ake trails followed and then "The Hill" with a sign a t the bo ttom , " Tie Br eaker Hill." It 's h ard en o ugh getting up a hill o n your min u te much less on the seco nd. This was the d own fall for many riders. It was p ush time for m ost. One mo re secret check that surprised everyone an d Gary Hickman attacks one of the fun , re ck-strewn uphills, encounte red du ring the Bad Moun tain.
