The Import Cycl e e n try was th e quick est o f the day in th e 25 0 E xp e rt and Neil is in firm co m m a nd o f the race for points. With a co m ple m e n t of new m otors including a new 35 0 Astro , the middle Davidson bo y is the la test in hot 'sh o es. The other party to con te nd with in this class is the son of ancien t age hero. Ray Huff: Dennis. He won the first point run at th e Salinas sand pit and t ook third in both the 25 0 and Open Exper t runs to keep a tie for second in the high p oint run with Davidson. In the Open ' b attle , the surprise winner was Da le Mathers and it w asn't the win that was so surprising as the fa ct th at he led it from wire to wire and with a tough hoe to row for th e distan ce . . T aking over th e hunt after D uane Bowling stuck in the mud at that point , was J im Fole y , the fo rmer National scrambles ch am p , and b y the end of the race, Jim had closed th e gap greatly.
