During the Chapparal's enduro some
low-life actually stole a broken down
rider's water off his dead bike while he
walked 500 yards to a checkpoint to get
help. This person should be given lots

We heard the fo llo wi ng story about the
Novic e winner at Daytona. In victory
circle Gary Blackman was asked ho w
long he'd been road racing. It was his
first race , h'e said. He'd written to
Yamaha a fe w months previous and
asked fo r a b ike . You know, he said ,
they didn't even wr ite back. So he
bought a used one. What was his plan?
He didn't have one. I just kept looking
around , he said, and wondering where
everybody was.

The End of motorcycling as we know it
may have reared its head with the
environmental question. With road bikes
producing too much pollution and dirt
bikes tearing up the hills (There are ruts
all the way up the hills at your favorite
riding area, aren't there?), you are
rap idly becoming out of date , and the
most eloquent statements about fun and
freedom aren't going to deter anybody .
What are you going to do?

Yankee Motors rider Dale Furst used the Phenix City. Alabama. track on March 4 to unveil
the new 500cc Vankee twin cylinder dirt tracker. The machine puts out the familiar angry sting
of all two stroke engines and appeared to have good power. Handling on the tacky banked clay
track was hard to judge but changes call for experimentation with both the forles and shocks to
refine the traek eharacteristics. The DMR cooling fins used on the head made the engine look
wjde at first glance. The bike . weighs in at 250 pounds and is putting out an estimated 60
horsepower. Some people will be set to thinking when they get piped by the red , white and blue
Yankee twin. Photo by Gary Van Voorhis.
