The complete an d , hopefu lly, acc ura te results may be available for th e next issue. It was n' t a muddy run, bu t th e tight woods an d ro ck y trail s soon fat igued many rid er s. Hill City was th e p rim e sp ectator spot, an d, t ho ugh it provid ed co n tinuo us amuse ment for the crow d, it off ered only agony for th e riders unable to make it to t he ' top . Faced with a 5 0 0·foot inclin e of san d, clay and ch ert , many riders mad e a h alf-d ozen attemp ts before reaching th e crest. O the rs spe nt mos t of th e afternoon on the hillsi de, al ternately resting and d o ing the grun t-wh eeze-and-push . Ron Boh n n ego ti ated the hill with a sm ooth , unin te rrupted cha rge to the top. Most of t h e b e tt er riders did likewise, incl udi ng Pap a J ohn Pento n, wh o charged about half wa y up and cas ua lly f o ot ·padd led a nd throttle-blip ped th e re st o f the way. Bu t, of ove r 600 entries, it see me d th at at least 500 spe nt a mi ghty lon g spell o n th e side o f t hat hill. Nearly everyone agreed, however. that it was a fin e run . AI Eames remarked th at it w as on e of th e best endures he 'd attended. The Geo rgia Crackers MC is now in the pro cess of so rting o ut the sco ring problems, an d intends to m ail th e trophies to all wh o d eserve th em within th e n ex t two weeks. It is h op ed that the names of all th ose who cheated will be no ted an d duly recorded in a little b lack b ook for futu re referen ce. All score sh eets are being ch ec ked agains t th e master sheet to find any discrepancies. Bill Ol iver, Corvallis, Ore. , rides the Astro 350 to be come the first out-of-st ate rider ever to win an y Novice T .T . ' event at Ascot Park.
