Despite the rough course with it s nasty up and d own hills, twisty-turn}' sandwashe s a nd mix-ups in markings n ear th e e n d . m ost o f the finish ers were smilin g and looked surprisingl y fres h , including T om Brooks, Sr. Tom ki lled his engine in th e wash just hefore the finish and ki cked and kicked.
