It shaped up to be American Motocross-spo nsored Ric h Eiers tedt an d Gav lon Mosier, both on Maicos, winning ' t he first heat an d awaiting th e final. In the second goes , Bry ar Holcomb (Bu l) and Glen Lund [H us) pulled off th e wins. As th e sun began to nestle behind a nea rb y hill, the Expert final go t underwa y a n d immediately Rich Eierstedt p ow ered t o th e p oin t with Husky's Billy Clements behind. Mosi er began bein g bad gered by T erry Cl ark, (B us) but th at ebbed as th e race rea ch ed its late ' m oments. Rex Staten (Mai) cha nged t he rings and piston the night before and rode practice but failed to tighten the bolts en ough after it had warmed up. McCa ffery lead for half of the 12 lap main wi th Garbe finally slipping under hi m in a co m er t o go o n to th e win. Th e 250 Main eve nt, which is usually the climax of the evening. seemed like a le t-do wn after a ll t he action in th e gra ndstands. But as usual this class proved wh y p eople keep co ming back . Randy S kiver o n th e ne w Clarke Sim p kins H on da mad e n o mi sta ke s as he powere d o ff th e line to take a lead that was never ch allen ged to win the Main. Skiver also won th e 2 5 0 Tro phy Dasb.
