Cald well wh o had to mov e up from th e same kind of st ar t as Czerwinski had the first m o to , came in third . With victory in his eyes, Czerwins ki hu rst in the lead o f the fin al mota and ba t tle d fo r a cou p le of laps with Bob (" the ' T oad " ) Schwartz wh o lat er dr opped back. Cze rw ins ki held first for three lap s befo re Ca ld we ll made his bid and passed h im. Caldwell held it t ill th e checkered an d Czerwi nski's Maico broke right b efo re th e fla g 'to give Schneller sec o nd an d J oe Cushaway (Bul) third. Chuck and Hig gin s b oth crashed the las t mota - so Bass just ran aw ay with second goi ng to Mik e Knopf (Hus). an Intermediate rid er . Knopf had bad luck in the first moto so Mik e Anderson (CZ) won th e Open Interm ediat e trophy ah ead of good friend Harv ey Wynn (S uz) and R ay Marsh al (Suz). Junior class winners in cluded Mar k J ohnso n (Bul) in th e 125 Junior cl ass. Sco tt Victor (Hus) 250 J un ior, and Brad Lack ey 's friend Herb Waite (Ma i) wh o d id a fine j ob of holding off Chris J ohnson ( Yam ) and Roy J on es (H us) in the OpenIuni or go. T im Marquez (3) cuts in for a bett er line in the 250 class.
