At 52, Jack was a real veteran o f the sport a nd c o m m o n ly known as the Grand O ld Man of sp e e dw ay . He was co mp e tin g in a scratch ra ce at the new Bendigo speedway in Victoria when he fell from his b ike and was struck by a foll owing rider. In 1951, Biggs earned the sympathy o f every one connec ted with speedway when h e c a m e within a whisker of winnin g th e world cha m p io n sh ip .
