In the Short Track, Doug Westly and Jim Crowley finish ed second and third while in the Half-mile it was again Doug seco nd . John Eri ckson, who's name is becoming almost expected as the winner of the 100 Novi ce, didn't disappoint anyone ex cept second place Brent Alumb augh . Don Tallman topped Craig Scroggins and Casey McClintock to win Division I. Mark Barbani pulled a Vince Mead in the 125 Amateur-Expert Short Trac k and Half-mile . No one got even close enough to ch allen ge. Coffman. The drawing fo r th e Turkey was won by J. Hicks of Lan caster . Sunday w as an other good day for racin g for a much larger turn o ut. Mark Stormes led the Open class wi th a good lead until th e fourth lap when h e let Jerry V ondellon tak e ov er by an inch just before th e checke red flag. K. Parry took first in th e 17 5 class this tim e on his 125 Yamaha. The fir st 25 0 goes to Jessie Cox and dse cond goes to his co usin , Jerry Cox. First 100 was n o other than R . Wright again as on Saturday. The course was changed due to dune buggies using the track. Most p eople liked it better than before. R. Wright not only took two firsts for Saturday and Sunday which made him high point winner of the California helm et but also won a turkey. Se cond turkey was tak en h om e b y J. Jim Wright was hot Wednesd ay, hitting for one first and two seconds. llis first came in th e 250 Am ateur-Expert Short Track where he had to co n ten t with Gary Wells. It w ent right down to the wire with a tie going into the fin al round. It was J im that got th e drop off the line and , Gary just co u ld n' t ge t around him. Steve Bales aced Jim out in the 175 Novice Amateur-Expert combined. The race was handicapped with Novices on th e front row, Amateurs second and Experts third. Steve h ad th e advantage with a second row and it was just too mu ch for J im to handle even though he managed to take it down to the final heat. Randy Baile y and hi s sc ream in 25 0 Yamah a twin were so far ah ead in th e Expert Half-mile th at aLea r J et is ab o u t th e only thing th at could catch h im . Randy had so much fu n runnin g away from them in the 25 0 Class th at he gave a repeat p erforman ce in th e Op en C ombination. There w as a no-n o pull ed h ere as a ligh twe igh t is n ot suppose to run w ith a Heavyweigh t an d he was still riding hi s twin. A Novice in th e pers on o f Don Waffle got in th ere for a solid seco nd. Don Waffl e did pull a first in the Novi ce Moto on the Short T rack with three for three. Bob Graves and Terry Griner were so evenly matched in the 250 Amateur Half-mile .th at they ende d th e evening in a tie for first place. Each rid er had a first , second and third to his cre d it and they took their cue from each other. ' Keith Hoffman on the little Spanish import, Carabella grab bed th e win in the 250 No vice Half-mile . Carabella, at least with Keith aboard makes a pretty good flat track machine which might start a whole new trend for the little rno to -crosser. Bob Fuller took on th e G ary's from Ari zona, Wells and Davis in th e Expert Sh ort Track. G ary Wells starte d th ings off b y wi n n ing th e firs t m o to but Bob came b ack th e next two to tak e th e wins and th e overa ll. Brian's Tolso n and Garcia won the tw o Sho rt Track Di vision s of 250 No vices while Kelly McCu rrin to pped Billy Ch arles an d Mike Fritz in the 125 - Novi ce Short Track.
