Gary Jones carn e o u t t o sh ow the troops the way in the 250 and 500 Senior classes. In the 250 class Ri chard Eie rstedt m ad e Gary w ork as he would take the lead in each mota on ly to have Jones get by after two or three laps. Eierstedr's con sist e ncy paid off for in th e third moto Gary blew a sp ark plug res ulting a DKF; giving the Maico jockey the w in with Jones second an d Tim Battenschlag (Mai) third with three consisten t rides. Tim is another fine up and coming young rider who will be makin g his presence felt. In the 500 Se nior, Mis ter Y am ah a had to w o rk again with Bob Fish, riding for T ri-Suz of Pomon a, taking the lead on his C Z only to h ave Jo nes p ass h im o n lap th ree w ith Gary pulling to a c om fortabl e lead. The second m oto saw ano ther CZ ge tting th e lead , this being ri dden b y ano the r rid er ou t of T ri-Suz of Po mo na, G le nn I1ugh es. J ones again took th e lead and th e win w it h the h ard charging , smoo th rid ing Fackler gathering in secon d; Fisk again taking th ird . Roland Rodriquez (GZ) was rid in g h ar d for th e win afte r J ones' troubles on ly to h ave Facklers hard charging CZ pass for the win. Resul ts for the day: Fackler first , Jones w ith another second and con sisten t Rodriqu iz third. The 500 Junior h ad Fred Osborne (C Z) winning wi th a se cond a nd two firsts. With three fir st place sta rt s under his belt in the 250 Expert-Intermediate com b in ed class, Bobby proceeded to h o ld o f f the best Spillway h ad to o ff er for up to three lap s.
