June II , 19 72 SRA somehow has set out to prove th a t early morning racing is the way to go in the C alifornia summertime. and seem to be proving their point as the early-early m otocross at R awhide Park was an in st ant h it among th e riders an d sp ec t a to rs a like . Whe n the gate. opened a t (groan) 5:3 0 , there were many who plowed in an d got re ad y for a day in the infamous Rawhide dust. Bu t George J ohnson had succeeded in licking th e powdery stu ff and the racing was free o f ch o ke. The tru ck o n ly had to ma ke one round during the events. Track co n d it ion s were mu ch improved over some of the ea rly events SRA held and a ll seemed sati sfied th at the park was indeed a reaso n abl e pl ace to race on an o the rwise dreary S u nday . The day's most fun ra ce w as the 250 Ju niors with a three w ay tie going in to the fin al. Von Peters on took the nod with Tom Maw an d ~Iike Johnson right be h ind to finish the day in that order.
