In th e th ird lap , Em il Ahola, a c rowd fav ori te , h it the wa ll in the fron t straigh tawny an d had to leav e the race . In the mea n time. Skiver h ad worked hi s way up to six th and wa s nipping a t T om Waterson's back tire , wit h Dav e Yost putting the p ressure o n Skive r. The pressure was really o n \\"Ite rso n com ing in to the South tum, causing \ \'a te rso n to go d own in fro n t o f Skiver. Skiver swerving to miss \\'ate rso n and Roger Stanley going wide and off the track . Skiver lo st ground to Yost while trying to go around Waterson and Y ost was able to edge past Skiver to lose i t in the final lap in a d rag race 10 the finish line with Skiver co mi n g in third and Yo st a fraction behind. Ma ran ac c i came acro ss the line in a comfortable fi rst w ith ~ Iike Elder second. The Trophy Dash was domin ated b y Junior riders wi th S am ~lartin, fir st ye ar Junior setting fast overall time of th e night with a 19 .05. It w as a re al duel be tw een Maranacci and Einarsson fightin g b ack and forth for the lead. Ein arsso n was able to get past ~I aranacci and hang on to th e lead just long enough to take home the tr ophy. The Junior Main turned o u t to be a three wa y battle b e twee n Jim Ein ar sson, Steve Baker and Sam Martin . Ei narsson took the lead in th e firs t tum and the battle was on w ith side-by -side riding b y Einarsson, Baker and Mar tin . :\lartin edged fo rward to ta ke th e le ad wi th Ba ker an d Ein arsson rig h t b eh in d , Fred ' Siegel fo llo we d in fou rt h . Martin stretched out hi s lead a litt le leavin g t he battle between Ein arsson a nd Ba ker for second. The fire , caused by a broken gas line, was quickly extinguished and neither Cooper n or the b ik e sustained serious damages. Steve Pe rgin ca me back after a layoff and picked off the wi n in the 100 Novice: D ivisio n I. Derek Ka tan ic , after un load ing on the new b it , recovered and made up enough points for a second overa ll. Denais Turner was third. To m Avoian ca me o u t fo r the first time t his year and did h im sel f p roud by winning the 175-200 class. The class was hotly co n tested and ended up in a tie for sec ond between A n d y Lutrull and Mike Horton with Bob Ly nch J r. a close third . Another tie was recorded in the Xovi ce 1\Ioto II where David Atkinson grabbed off third with Rory H ollad ay second and Ralph Hendricks and Larry Wall in g th ird .
