RUNNING SPRINGS RUNNI NG S PR INGS , CA LI F., May 20, 19 72 - An inc h of rai n fell in the mountains Friday n igh t. It migh t have dampened a few spirits, but the o nes who showed up fo r the CRC 's first Saturday Beginner/Novice m o to cro ss had plen ty of fun. The rainfall was just enough to give the co u rse e xc ellen t traction throughout the day . Strode (Ya m) and Yan o Cir co (Y am ) fo r the under 16 Beginner titl e. Ro y Holsheirner and Ken Shaw pu t in a goo d w ord fo r CZ as th ey cam e in ahead of Rob Giles (Ya m) in the 250 Beg. class. 250 Novice winners were Morgan Mol occo (Yam) first, Dennis Dannelly (Yam) second and third p lace Bru ce Butler on th at sneaky Bultaco . Dav id Gunn on a Pu ch, again won th e 125 Begin ner class and it ' s ab o u t tim e th at guy go t moved up to Novice , He was fo llowed b y Jim Nelson (Puc) and Burlin Harris ( Bu l). The 125 under 16 was w on by Mike Walt on on a Yamah a wh o was hard pressed by David Ka hn on h is new Penton. Terry Va n Heest was third , also on a Yamaha. In the third mo to o f th at class, Do n My ll go t sid ew ay s going off the drop away on the fr ont st raight an d N '" '" ~ crashed on so me b ig ricks farther dow n th e h ill. The ambulance cam e an d go t h im but eventually he wa lked away suffering on ly from a badly cru nc hed bike. Allen J ones rode his Rickman faster th an a nvone in th e J 25 No vice class and to ok fi~ st pl ace. He was foll owed b y Bru ce William s ( Bul) a nd Lach Stewart (Yam). G ordon T amm (Yam) showed his stuff again in the J 00 Beg - 16 class . Tamm is improving every week an d it won 't be long till he is moved up to Novice . Smooth riding Lindley Kistler wo n over the rest of the Mini's on hi s Yamaha. Dawn Foley (Ya m ) t ook home Powder Puff to p sp o t. She was foll owed by Cindy Kerney on a Kawasaki.
