The program was down on big names as a series of accid en ts and illnesses to ok man y of th e stars aw ay fro m th e speed way sh ow in the desert. The track surface was whole-b u nches better than either of the two p revious races an d the crowd is beginning to understand the way a speedway meeting is run. Steve Bast really put on the gate shot and led the Scratch Main in to the first comer while being closely pursued by brother Mike. Larry Shaw and Ruben Benites were figh ting it ou t for third. Mike Bast put a little too much throttle into it on the second lap and went down while at the same time Shaw's ESO turned a little sour. When the checkers fell it was Steve Bast winning his second main in that many tries. Benites nailed down the runner-up spot. Handicap Main Event winner was to be awarded a m assage from the trophy girl. That's righ t. The trophy girl, Miss Cin dy Burke, is employed by Susie's Massage Pa rlor in Palm Springs.
