Another Emde Joins the Winning Ranles Yet SAN DIEGO, CAL., April 2, 1972 BuItaco mounted Earl Roloff sco red the first professional victory of his five-year car eer Sunday as he ca me from behind to capture the eight-lap 250 IT feature at the lightning fast South Bay Speedway course. Young Roloff has scored co un tless Sporting Rider wins at California tracks, but So u th ern Sunday's win had to be a car eer high point, as he downed a top .field of pro riders from both the San Diego and Los Angeles area. In other 250 action, veteran Sal Peluso had his Don Vesco Yamaha really cooking as he ran away from th e field in the 10 lap Half Mile Main . Open class actio n found Ward Ring grabbing o ff a hard fought win in the eight l ap 1' 1' M ain over Trackmaster/K awasak i 350 m o unted Larry Collie. Co llie, debuting his "Lightweight" Open machine, serv ed notice that he will be a factor to be considered for t he rest of the season. In the 10 lap Open Ha lf-Mile Main , Ri ng was topped in t he closing laps b y 1971 So uth Bay champ, John Hoy - both T riumph mo unted . The added 125 Sp orting Rider IT Mai n found David Emde (Bul) carry on the family's winning wa ys as he went to wire in th e six lapper for a co m fo rtab le win ove r up a nd co ming J ohn Allis on. Sunday 's event was the first po int race for th e n ewly formed Cali forn ia Motor Racing Enterprises gro up, and was w itnessed by a fine Easter Sunday crowd who saw a very com p eti tive program with o ver 130 en tries. CMRE will return to South Bay Speedway th is Sunday, April 16 for th eir second Hal f-Mile and IT program. Lo cal rid ers dominated th e results with stro ng comp etition from nearb y Parker. T he 100 clas s wa s won by LHR rider Dan Smith, with his only tro ub le from Al Francis , another local rider. T he 125 cla ss was won by Steve Ho ldread with tough co mp etitio n from Eddie Bonds and Steve De'Voe , Parker riders. Don and T o m Robertson, b oth from LHC , made th e 250 class a family affair by getting a first and second. Larry Ross, Kingman, won the Open class wi th Grady Sm it h, Parker, pulling in second. The Mini -bike class was won b y Terry Messe r. Fred Noblitt, Parker Dam, got seco nd. Messer rode the last two lap s of the third moto on a flat tire and still won it . Th e effect o f t his b ill, if enacted, wo uld be to remo ve more than 250,000 acres of land from the Inyo National Forest and add it to Sequoia Na t io nal Park. At present, off-ro ad vehicles ma y be operated o n most portions of this land, b ut would be totally prohibited if the area achieved National Park status. Under th e supervision of the U.S . Forest Service, this area has been a great source of rec reation for families, hunters, fishermen, and a host of other user-groups. Every p erso n wh o has used this area in the pas t an d wis hes to continu e th at use, should write a letter of prot est to their o wn Ll.S, Represen ta tiv e, U.S. Senator, and Represen tative Bob Mathias in whose Co ngr essional Dis tri ct th e area lies.
