IRVINE, CAL ., April 16 , 19 72 Movies , mudh oles and mad ness took
over at the CMC Motocross at
Saddleback Park today.
Fro m the time the gates opened t his
morning you could tell it just wasn't a
normal day. R umo rs had b een going
around that part of a movie would be
shot on location at the park this day ,
but who would h ave guessed t hat it was
to star a two-headed man o n a
motorcycle. It was really a mind-blower
watching some d ude cruising aro und
Saddleback with two heads.
T he n the re was th e m udhole th at
caused almost as mu ch excite ment.
Wow, you would have tho ugh t that it
was o ne of Evel's snake p its th at way
so me r iders were crying. So after
practice, it was bypassed and everyone
was happy except for one guy wh o
complained to a park employee that he
spent all of h is practice lear n ing how to
ride thro ugh it and now it was o ut.
Now to t he madness as CMC rid ers
turned ou t in reco rd nu mbers today
with well ove r 300 entries, th e largest
turno ut t his year at Saddleback.
Sabre Pro d ucti ons (the peop le b eh ind
the two-heade d man) pu t - up S100 in
th e 25 0 E xpe rt di visio n today and it
was Gaylo n Mosier (Mai) who made out
like a bandit as h e took ho m e S 140 fo r
his win ning efforts, but h e deserved
every penny as he stormed to the lead in
the second moto with so me of the most
im p ressive riding this repo rter has seen
all year. T he hard luck story o f th e day
goes to second overall 250 Expert Ray '
Eierstedt, a lso on a Maico. Eierstedt
actually tied with Mosier with a first
and third, but by virtue of Moseri's win
in the final moto, Eierstedt had to settle
for second an $ 70 less at the pay
window.
Bruce Baron (Pen) rode to a first and
a fourth to outpoint 1\1. Roth in the 125
Expert class.
It was consistency that paid off in the
500 Expert eve nt as M. Anderson never
won a race but came .o ut on top with
two seconds. Greg Smith (Mai) and
Mark Nohr (Mai) each won a moto but
finished low enough in the other to give
Anderson the win.
It was a perfect day with 38 m o to s of
good racing, a neat track, b eau t ifu l
weath er and, of course, Saddleback's
two-headed man.
