While many of this mode l are st ill runn ing. many o f ' them h ave fallen by the wayside with rod bear ing malfunctions. 3 .) As this model uses a "C" type spark plug. use a 16mm de ep socket t o re move it . When doing a tune-up. always in stall new spark p lugs no matter how few mil es the old on es have o n them. Whe n installing them in th e head, start them quite a ways by hand before using th e plug wrench t o avoid cross-threading th em. 5.1 Cl ean th e contacts and adjust the gap to .0 15 in . To be positive th er e is no oil or grease on the points, open th e contacts, inse rt a st rip of business card as sh ow n and twi st it back and - fort h . Then open th e poi nt s and re m o ve it , rep eat t hi s process until th e ca rd co mes ou t clean . Whi le the Ho nd a 150cc model so ld quite well in the early days of Honda's migration into the United States , th e frame and suspension systems soon lost out to the demands of the buying pub lic. This model, called the Benley (why, 1 have n o id ea), also h ad a tendency for cra n k failure if the owner was pron e t o hot-dogging it all th e time. But despite th e fa ct that it has a pressed steel fr ame a nd forks, despite its definite power-to -we ight d isad vantage, a nd despi te the fa ct that its design is ugly by to d a y 's standards (before yo u Honda lo ve rs land on me, beauty is in the eye o f th e b eholder), there are a gan g of th em still running aro u nd the co u n try . One reaso n for this is that if it is pl aced in th e hands o f a co nscien t iou s ow n er wh o t a k es a little bit o f care of the machine, it w ill last fo r a long time d oing just what it was designed t o do; provide l o w -c o s t dependable transporatio n. With th e fantastic growth of Honda in the United States, and with the addition of new d ealers to meet this growth. o ftimes an o w ner o f o ne of t hese ma chines will find th at his dealer will not o nly n ot work on it: but h e has never heard o r one. I have o ne customer wh o has a Yamaha 125 YA-3 who had this problem. A number o f dealers had Oa t out told him that t he re we re no suc h animal, " Yamaha only m ade a YA-5 a nd a Y A-G". A lso servic e m anu als fo r th is mo d el arc p ractically non-existent , so th is presents so me what of a dilem ma to th e owner who wou ld like to k eep his machin e in proper running o rder. I have prepared here, a m in or e ngine tune up guide to help yo u k eep th e Honda CA -95 in co rr ec t tune at least. Just fo llow the step by step pictures and instructions, and also remember that it is best to get things sp ot-on, not just close. Close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades. 6,) Us ing a 14mm wr ench. tu rn th e cen ter fixing nut on th e rotor in th e d irection of engine rotation until th e left inta ke valve op en s. Th en turn it furth er forward unti l the "TOO mark on th e rotor al igns with the st a t io na ry po inte r. T hi s puts th e lett-hend cylinder on top dead center compressio n st ro ke for adjusting the valves . 9,) Using t h e center fixing n ut . rotate the CYCLE PISTONS INCREASE PERFORMANCE AND RELIABILITY PISTO N PERFORMANCE: • Ca m gr ou nd ta pe r fmish to red uce friction . • Low ex pansion heat-tr eated al uminum for high st ren g th at eleva ted temp er atures . 7 .) Now adjust t he val ves on th e left-han d side at .00 2 in . for the intake and .0 04 in. for the exhaust . As the same •"T" mark is used for both sides. follo w t he same p ro ced ure for t he right-hand side to get t hat pist on on top dead center com pression stroke. engine until t en sion is fe lt from a cam op ening a valve . Loosen the lock nut on the ca m c hain ad juste r as sh ow n here w ith a 14 m m wrench . Th is adjuster is lo cate d just t o the re a r o f the cy linder o n t he left-han d side. Wit h a small screwdri ver, bac k off t he ad juster and then thread it down light ly until yo u feel it hit th e te nsio ner . Do NOT fo rce it aga ins t the te nsio ner, ju st touch it, th en h o ld it in position a n d lock down th e lock n ut. Some t imes this nut will have a ru bber cap on it . Start th e en gine and ad ju st t he carb t o a s lo w id le . By shin ing th e timing ligh t at th e orifice wh ere the sta t io nary ma rk is. the " F" mark on the rotor sho uld appear ' fr o zen ' in li ne with the stat io na ry ma rk . If the tw o do n o t alig n. lo ose n th e t wo bac king plate screws (arrows ) and rotate t he backing plate until th ey do. As this mo del has o n ly one set of co n tacts for both cyl inders, setting th e t im ing on one cyl inder t ak es care of both sides as both cy linders . se tting th e timing on o ne cy linder ta kes ca re of both si des as both cyli nders fire o n th e ex haust st ro ke as w ell as th e compression a nd they sti ll both fire . That's all th ere is to it. re-in stall the point cover and tak e it out for a t est rid e.
