A large co ntingen t of the " Old T ime rs Club" st aged an exhibiti on to the d elight of the spectato rs. Whoever said li fe begins at 40 must h ave b een a d irt rid ers cause these fellas seem to h ave a ball. T he speed and sk ill of these guys took everybod y by surprise . They are good and fast. Everybody was ridi ng full bore as th er e we re lots of goodies p lus the usual to be awa rded. Kat hy t rophies Montgomery (Pe n) an d Linda Ha le (Ya m) w ere both anxio us to cop first in the Powder Pu ff ex hibitio n. The lead ch ang ed back and fo rth between these two gals but Lin d a n osed h er o ut at th e finish for the overa ll win . Both gals were happy with th eir loot, a pair of Curn utt shocks an d a gift certificate . A wheel-t o-wh eel batt le went o n b etw een Davi d Harrell (CZ) an d Chu ck Czerwinski (Mai) in the Open J unio rs. These tw o lo ok ed like Siamese twins mo st of th e ti me , taki ng the co m ers simultan eously. Chuck would ge t around David and th en David saw h is chance and made h is move, this little game was pl ay ed each mota but Harrell got th e lead at the checkered fo r th e first o verall a nd Chuck settling fo r second. T h ird pla ce was so far b ehind these tw o rid ers ma ybe they should no longer b e Juniors. Draw ings were h eld through th e d ay for the good st uff donated b y lots of in tere sted dealers and d istrib uto rs. T he . Clausen OAKHURST, CAL.~ April 9, 19 72 Oakhurst had no rain in t he m onth previous to Sierr a 100 Enduro. So dust was t he prob lem at th e st art and on so me of the co urse. However, th ere was wet du st in the creek b o tt oms th at made for so me h ilarious pe rfo rmances. To q uote o ne anguished victim of th e glop, "They u sed my b ik e fo r t ractio n. Tore off the muffler and broke my gas tank before I co uld rescu e it." They've got b lack, re d and ye llow mud in t hose woods. T he te rrain arou nd Allen's Cycle Par k where t his bash started is so me of th e best riding territory in California. It w ill be revis ited April 23 by t h e 750 en trants of the Ch ick en End uro. If yo u're no t entered in this o ne either, tuff chicken . We had a preview of the co urse - it's challenging. The Sierra 100's snakey co urse th ro ugh the piney woods, 30 add miles from Yosemite Park was not a big bike course , but the high point riders were B. Bowers, 994 and J. Nelson. 993 o n 400 Huskies. F. Bauer was third with 993 on aD KW. T his run was u n iq ue in a co uple of ways. The mo st no ta b le was the tr ophy presen tat io n one hou r after t h e last finis he r was in. Another was a 20 mp h average for th e en tire ru n a f 100 plus miles - H mmm! So me of th e first lo op trail was used on the second loop, but with a d ifferen t start. A lousy . dusty and rocky uph ill th at left bikes and riders hanging in the b ushes (b ushes are 10 0 feet ta ll in t his country). th en back in to the wetter woodsy stuff of the fir st lo op. The riders felt lik e " they'd b een here before" and they did get off in the same pla ces as th e first tim e aro u nd , lo oking a b it confused. T he uphills and d ownhills are beautiful - the best in th e West. If yo u have problems, the trunks of those big damn bushes stop y o u within a few feet - keeps the trails narrow, too. The consensus was "good show" . (R esults on Page 40)
