Tom Milli ga n p ull ed it out, fo llo wed cl o sely b y Wes Co ol ey and T om Fra n klin. In t h e b ig b ik e race for t he Juniors , Fran k lin t o ok a nother t hird . It was hard to t ell the race was for GP b ikes since the lead ers were a ll o n p ro d uc tio n ma ch in ery . Ahead of Franklin was the stylish win ner Dale McCreary o n a Ya maha R5 and in second J ohn Lass ak . These th ree b eat all th e bigger bikes in th e GP a nd almos t redundantl y too k th e first three spots in th e 350 Pr oducti o n race as w ell, fi nishing in t he sa m e o rder. Lassak gets t he " cornerin g w it h knees o u t farthest " awa rd for lookin g so g ood in t he u ph ill le ft h and er at the p it s. Carl sb ad is th e o nly track I know w h ere pit racing is n ecessary to complete a la p. It's so bumpy out th ere rumor has it we get m o to cross p o in ts. In the h ea vy weigh t Pr o d uct ion race at leas t th e big b ik es beat th e smaller o ne s wi th madman Bo b End icott taking first o n his Ho nd a 7 50. He co uld have wo n the "knees o ut" awa rd but he w as st ick ing o ut m o re a na to my than just h is kn ees . He was foll o wed closely by Dic k Kilgro e's Mach 4. T h e smalle r p ro d uctio n b ikes also put on a good race. Class wi n ners were Pa ul Long in the 50, Pa ul Wide th e 10 0 vic to r , and 125 going to Bruce Ko chmeier. T he 250's d id battle in a most co nvinci ng fashi o n wit h Willie Ha rdin taking th e checker slightly ahead of Bo b Cro ssm a n. A rare st reet Ossa took thi rd pil o ted by Dennis J o nes b ut only after a race-long dice with Rich a rd Siefried. The Open race saw few finishers as early leader Endicott h ad technical difficulties leaving the race to Tom White. To m , on a older 250 Yam ah a , really had to gas it to beat the Mach 4 of Dennis Peglo w 's. Richard Siefried ran away fro m the fiel d in the Senior Lightweight GP . I gave Don Wicks a fight early in the race but h e put a good margin between the two of us b y ' the race 's e nd. Dick Carlso n was the first 100.
