Smith, h ow ever , outpointed John
Fackler (CZ) to win the 500 Senior
despite a spirited final moto show from
Rich T horwaldson (Suz). Thor was
really gassing it, staying high on the
berms while pulling away from the
pack. If he hadn't suffered front brake
problems in the first two motos, the
final tally in this class could very well
have been different. Then again, that's
what it's all about.
Two 500 Intermediates put to a lot
of Seniors today. Ed Duncan and Pete
Maly both turned in a fine day of racing
with Duncan taking first overall in his
division. Maly, who has been wiping out
all the 500 Juniors in weeks past, found
the going a bit tougher today. He
admitted that he was a little nervous in
his first bout with the Seniors, but in
the third moto he rallied to a fourth.
He commented later that "those
Seniors won't let you get by like the
Juniors."
