MA MA
MIA TH AT'S
A SPICY
MO'SICKLE (WIT H S HR IMP) : In 1970
Ro wan Industries, a company wh ich has
as its prin ci pal business a Brazil ia n
shrimping operation , so ld its interest in
DeTomaso, who had recently pu rchased
Benelli moton:ycles , to Ford . Rowan
recently bought 85% of Benelli. Now
that isn't too unusual be cause Ford(who
until it sold it to Rowan , owned
DeTomaso and therefore Benelli) is
planning to make a mo t o rcycle of t heir
own. What is unusual is that Ford, it
seems, controls Ro wa n . So Ford
(Rowan) sol d DeTomaso (Benelli) to
Ford (F ord) and th en Ford (Rowan)
bought Benelli (Ben elli) fr om Ford
(DeT omaso) . A re n't h igh finance games

We n o t iced in last week's " Voices"
column that KNXT newsfellow Clete
Roberts was taking a beating for the
report that was broadcast featuring
Indian Dunes as a wasteland of
subversive motorcycle activity . "I'm
bl eeding," said Clete as he called us
fro m Bud Ekins' shop. " I nev er made
the broadcast." Indeed, Bill Stout was
the rep o rt er behind the yellow-tainted
broadcast, not Clete. HI never knew it
was going o n the air." Roberts
contin ued, " If I wo uld h ave seen it
beforehand I never wo u ld have put it o n
th e air . 1 agree with th e peop le who say
it was a bad broad cast. " H e furt her
mentioned th at Sto ut , we ll-meaning
